Our History

Sunrise Metal Shop was established in 1971 by my father and mother, Enos and Katie Kuhns (3630 W 350 S Topeka, IN). It was formerly known as Topeka Metal Shop and was owned by my grandfather, Jacob Schlabach, and my uncle, Clarence Schlabach.

We started as a full line plumbing store and custom sheet metal fabricating shop catering to a largely agriculture related community. We added a full line of paint and some hardware items early in the business. In 1972, we built our first maple syrup evaporator pans out of stainless steel, custom built to the needs of our customers. We work with all types of sheet metals and steel materials. Mig and tig welding, soldering, seaming, riveting, and etc.

Sunrise Metal Shop is now a partnership with my son, Devon Kuhns, son-in-law, Leland (Lee) Miller, and myself. On January 1st, 2006, a year after my dad passed away, we formed the partnership and took over the shop from my mom. In November 2009, having outgrown the facilities, as per agreement, we moved into a new building located one half mile east of the home farm, 3070 W 350 S Topeka, IN 46571.  In 2013 we had to expand our facility and have added and addition that triples our production facilities.
